😩 Stress is a sign something's broken
While reading anything on the internet, has your mind wandered off into some area that doesn’t have anything to do with what you’re reading here?
Probably.
And most likely where your mind went was to some incomplete situation that you have an investment in.
That situation yelled at you internally "You need to get me done"
And what did you do about it?
Unless you wrote it down and put it in a trusted collection tool that you know you’ll review soon, more than likely you worried.
Another thing to remember about.
Not only no progress was made, but stress was increased.
And what's worse is that these situations add up over time causing even chronic stress.
But there's a silver lining here.
Rather than resenting feeling stressed, we can see stress as a symptom.
A symptom that the way we manage our life is not fully developed yet.
A system's objective is to stop us from using our brains to remember stuff (which we suck at) and help us get focused at executing.
So if there's stress, we need to make some changes.
But don't sweat it.
Trying to fix everything at once will only increase your stress levels.
Be realistic about what you can change and how quickly you can change it.
Making small, gradual changes is more likely to be successful than making radical changes overnight.
Simply catch those moments in which you feel stressed and write that thing down.
I would recommend a simple app for this such as Apple Notes or Google Keep.
But if you're not sure you're gonna check it later, find something you'll stumble upon such as a post-it note on your screen.

Once it's written down, go back to what you were doing and see if your stress was relieved.
Rinse and repeat until you get to the comfortable level in which you know that everything you write down won't be forgotten.
I now take pride in not knowing what I'm working on the next day because I have everything scheduled in Notion.
I know that if it's there, it's not gonna slip my mind.
The only thing that can happen is that I scheduled too much on a day, but there's no way I forget to do anything.
This is what welcomes me every day.
A simple view of what needs to get done today which was scheduled before the day started.
Creating a system that allows us to offload the worry from our brains is the single system I find necessary for everyone and the first one I would build for myself if I was starting.
